Still Popular Today: Gears of War

After winning 30 Game of the Year awards and selling around 5 million copies, you would think that Gears of War would have faded into the background, but that hasn't been the case.

Released in 2006 the game is still popular today, especially with the much-anticipated release its sequel, (and subsequent let down) of Gears of War 2.

The emotion behind the storytelling mixed with the fight scenes and the realness of the characters is what brings the game together and makes it cohesive.

Video Game Review: Gears of War 2

Sold only for the Xbox 360, Gears of War 2 is a much-anticipated sequel. As a tactical action game, it's fast-paced and adrenaline-charged. It's predecessor, Gears of War, sold 4.7 million copies and and ranked among the most popular Xbox games in history.

The second installment picks up six months later and continues the epic battle between humanity and the Locust Horde that lives underground. While the game is full of action there's also a story there – it's not just about killing enemies.

The reluctant hero, Marcus Fenix, seems to really understand the emotions of loss, survival, and retribution. Couple that with more weapons, new characters, nastier enemies, and better locales, and there are more thrills and more emotionally and physically charged moments for any gamer who was a fan of the first Gears of War installment.

Hackers Hold the Key to PSP

Three teams of hackers, all working together, keep finding ways to unlock the real potential of the PSP (PlayStation Portable) video game system.

Those who are against piracy worry that these hackers are out to make money and do illegal things, but the teams insist that's not the case. Instead, they do it partially just to see if they can – it's their hobby – and also so that they can customize their own games.

A lot of PSP players would like to be able to change the music in a game or maybe customize one of their characters. With the PSP hacked, they are able to do that.

However, each time the hackers break in, PSP updates the firmware, meaning that the unlock 'code'
no longer works. Anyone buying a brand new PSP will have to wait until the hacker teams succeed again before they can adjust or copy their games.

Soul Caliber 4: Where’d the Trophies Go?

The new Soul Caliber 4 game doesn't support trophies in the PlayStation 3 version. There's an in-game achievement system, but it just tells you that you've unlocked whatever thing you've just achieved. Then you've got to go to the museum and look at the battle records to see your 'trophy.'

Between that and it's lack of support for any kind of custom, in-game music, it's got a lot of die-hard gaming fans upset.

Oh, and there's no rumble option for the DualShock 3 controller, either.

Whether you think rumble is great or whether you think it's 'last generation,' there are probably people who still want it and won't be getting it. Whether this results in any kind of loss of sales still remains to be seen.

Want to know what the setlist is going to be for Guitar Hero World Tour? So do lots of other people.

Fans of the game thought that they had it all figured out when they found a detailed setlist circulating on the Internet. There's just one problem. It's a fake. Red Octane and Activision have both said that the list is not real.

While some of the songs that show up on the list are indeed on the Guitar Hero World Tour game, the list overall is not what the game has on it. It's speculation and it's wishful thinking…and it's a disappointment to all those fans out there who thought they suddenly had much-desired information in their hands, only to have that yanked away from them. It just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read – even on the Internet.

For someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of time doing that the performance coach, Hank Haney, will give his recommendations as to what settings work best for the clubs. Bias, spin, loft, workability, and power can all be tweaked on the game, letting those who are really serious about playing it maximize the equipment that they are given for the course or the conditions.

Club performance doesn't always equate to ease of use, though, so tune those clubs carefully!

The Release of Madden NFL 09: Maddenpalooza

There's going to be quite the party for this year's release of Madden NFL 09.

On August 11 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, a music festival like no other will occur. Entitled 'Maddenpalooza,' it will incorporate bands that have music on the current and the past Madden soundtracks. Radio stations in the local area will be selling tickets and they can also be bought at the Rose Bowl on the day of the event.

The tickets will get them a day of NFL stars signing autographs, music, and other fun. At nine that night the first copies of the game will be sold through a pop-up Wal-Mart right there at the stadium. For Madden fans, it just doesn’t get any better than that – at least until the next Madden installment comes out.
